The Colet Figure & Value Occupation, Philip & Tacey Ltd, Vintage Educational Apparatus
A wonderfully preserved example of The Colet Figure & Value Occupation, produced by Philip & Tacey Ltd of Fulham, London, one of Britain's best-known suppliers of educational apparatus during the mid 20th century. The company produced teaching materials for schools, nurseries and Montessori classrooms, reflecting the growing emphasis on hands-on, child-led learning.
Designed to introduce children to numbers, quantity and simple arithmetic, the set pairs printed numerals with corresponding dot cards, encouraging visual recognition and independent learning. Today it remains as appealing for its bold graphic design and educational history as it is for its original purpose.
Presented in its original printed box, the set has a wonderfully nostalgic character and would make a thoughtful addition to a collection of vintage educational materials, schoolroom objects or early learning apparatus.
Condition
Good vintage condition with age-related wear to the original box, consistent with use and storage. The cards remain bright and well preserved.
The set includes numeral cards 0 to 9 and matching quantity cards 1 to 9. There is no separate matching card for zero, which may be original to the design of the set.
A charming piece of educational history, equally suited to collectors, teachers, designers and anyone with an appreciation for beautifully made vintage learning materials
